Foot & Ankle Conditions FAQs
What is the most common cause of heel pain?
Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It typically causes sharp pain under the heel with the first steps in the morning or after rest.
When should I see a podiatrist for foot pain?
See a podiatrist if foot or ankle pain lasts more than a few days, worsens, limits your activity, or comes with swelling, numbness, redness, or signs of infection.
Do most foot conditions require surgery?
No. Most foot and ankle conditions improve with conservative care such as stretching, orthotics, padding, medication, and injections. Surgery is reserved for cases that don’t respond.
Can a podiatrist diagnose my condition in one visit?
In many cases, yes. Dr. Dennis can often diagnose your condition with a physical exam and in-office X-rays, and he can order an MRI when more detail is needed.
Do you treat foot conditions in children?
Yes. We treat children and teens for plantar warts, ingrown toenails, heel pain, and sports-related injuries.
Why is foot care important for people with diabetes?
Diabetes can cause nerve damage and poor circulation, so small injuries may go unnoticed and become serious. Regular podiatry exams help prevent ulcers and infections.
Is treatment for foot conditions covered by insurance?
Most medically necessary treatment is covered by insurance and Medicare. Call (713) 465-8833 to verify your benefits.
